8th graders create 3D printed prosthetic leg for one-legged chicken

HUGHESVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) — A one-legged chicken is back on two feet thanks to a group of Lycoming County eighth grade students. Students from East Lycoming School District took action to help a nearly year old chicken, named Blue, walk again. CNN affiliate WNEP says Blue was severely hurt after a raccoon broke into a chicken coop outside Briannah Miller's home near Montoursville. Several chickens died, and Blue lost her leg.

Centre Hall hosts annual community-wide yard sale this weekend

East Broad Top Railroad makes comeback almost decade later

ORBISONIA, Pa. (WJAC) -- Hundreds of people gathered in Orbisonia Friday to show love to the East Broad Top Railroad as it looks to get engines like "Millie" back up and running. The East Broad Top Railroad has been nonoperational since 2011. A new nonprofit, the East Broad Top Foundation has purchased the railroad from second-generation owner Joe Kovalchik and plans to bring it back to life. “I searched for nine years to get the right combination to get this thing to where our family wants it to be and that’s in a state or restoration and operation,” Kovalchik said.

Somerset Co. woman dies after tractor malfunction at Union County West End Fair

A Somerset County woman is dead after a malfunction with a tractor during the Union County West End Fair in Laurelton Friday evening, state police say. According to a press release, the 33-year-old woman was a spectator at the tractor-pull event at around 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle being driven malfunctioned. Union County Coroner Dominick T. Adamo identified the woman as Brandy Horner. State police said an exhaust wheel within a turbo housing of the tractor became dislodged and was ejected from its manifold.

Local leaders making progress on Roxbury hockey rink project

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — Johnstown leaders are making progress on a new hockey rink at Roxbury Park. The leaders behind the Roxbury Park hockey rink project say the asphalt has been applied and they are now awaiting some ADA compliance work to be done. They hope to get the lines drawn and open up the rink for play in the coming days. The committee says additional improvements and enhancements will come later, including a scoreboard.

Suspect with 'multiple prior law enforcement encounters' faces new drug, driving charges

First, he saw a car with “a large crack in the windshield.”Then, he reported seeing “the driver who I positively identified as Crystal Moon due to multiple prior law enforcement encounters.”And after she was arrested for a misdemeanor, he said she volunteered information that led to a few felonies. The deputy made a traffic stop in a gas station parking lot last Wednesday, May 22, in Florida.
