Parents, employees 'frustrated' with Ridgway Area SD decision to cut bus route

ELK COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Parents and employees of a local bus company showed up Tuesday evening to the Ridgway Area School board meeting to air their frustrations over changes to bus routes in the district. Citing a budget shortfall of more than $600,000, the district says it decided to cut one bus route. They say no student is losing bus coverage but the dropping of one route has led them to make changes in other routes, which has led to a later arrival time to pick up some students when school was over.

12 people charged in $87 million health care fraud conspiracy

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WJAC) — Twelve people, including 10 from western Pennsylvania, have been charged in an alleged extensive health care fraud conspiracy, according to a release from the U.S attorney’s office. The release said 10 individuals from Pennsylvania, a resident from Georgia and a resident from South Carolina are facing charges related to a yearslong conspiracy to defraud the Pennsylvania Medicaid program. Arlinda Moriarty, Daynelle Dickens, Julie Wilson, Tamika Adams, Tony Brown, Terry Adams, Terra Dean, Tionne Street, Keith Scoggins and Larita Walls, all living in and around Pittsburgh, along with Larita Walls, of South Carolina, and Luis Columbie-Abrew, of Georgia, are charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

An American Indian powwow is a traditional event within many native nations across the whole continent where people sing and dance, and share in language, culture, and food. While it's an event with deep spirituality, organizers also say it acts as a family reunion of sorts.

Crayola retires 'dandelion' crayon color

NEW YORK — Crayola announced on Thursday that the colorDandelion will be retired. It's the first time in their over 100 year history that the company has retired a crayon from the 24-count box. The shade of yellow was added to the Box of 64 in 1990. Which color will replace Dandelion is set to be released on Friday morning. Previously Crayola retired Prussian Blue, Maize and Raw Umber from their collections.

Steelers expected to sign veteran DB Desmond King

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to sign veteran defensive-back Desmond King. King was cut by the Houston Texans on Monday and will provide the Steelers with some additional cornerback depth. King was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 5th round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 95 career games, King has recorded 9 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 7 fumble recoveries, with three total defensive touchdowns.
