More charges filed against PA nurse for intentionally overdosing patients with insulin, killing 17 o

Authorities say more charges have been filed against a western Pennsylvania nurse who is accused of intentionally overdosing multiple patients with insulin.

In May, officials filed charges of homicide and attempted murder against 41-year-old Heather Pressdee, of Natrona Heights, after learning that she had allegedly administered lethal doses of insulin to several patients, killing two of them.

Now, the Attorney General's office says Pressdee is facing additional counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and neglect of care after investigators say a total of 17 patients, across five nursing care facilities, died while in her care.

“The allegations against Ms. Pressdee are disturbing. It is hard to comprehend how a nurse, trusted to care for her patients, could choose to deliberately and systematically harm them,” said Attorney General Michelle Henry. “The damage done to the victims and their loved ones cannot be overstated. Every person in a medical or care facility should feel safe and cared for, and my office will work tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable for her crimes and protect care-dependent Pennsylvanians from future harm.”

Authorities noted that some of the patients were not diabetic and did not require insulin.

Investigators say the alleged crimes occurred while Pressdee was employed at the following facilities: Concordia at Rebecca Residence; Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation (Guardian); Quality Life Services Chicora; Premier Armstrong Rehabilitation and Nursing Center; and Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Officials also note that Pressdee reportedly administered the insulin during the overnight shift when "staffing was low and the emergencies would not prompt immediate hospitalization."

Authorities say the victims ranged in age from 43 to 104.

Officials say Pressdee remains jailed in Butler County and her bail was denied.

Anyone who may have additional information regarding these alleged crimes is asked to contact the Office of Attorney General’s tipline at 888-538-8541.
