'Rise and Shine:' YWCA Greater Johnstown offering program for local young women

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — The YWCA Greater Johnstown is inviting young women throughout our region to their Rise and Shine program.

Girls ages 12 to 18 -- or 7th through 12th graders -- in our community are welcome to attend.

Dates and times are as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 23rd from 6:00 to 7:30 PM
  • Tuesday, June 20th from 6:00 to 7:30 PM

YWCA Board Member Christine Patrick says it's a group to support girls with self esteem, education, leadership, healthy lifestyles, and more.

It's to empower these girls in the Johnstown community -- and surrounding communities -- to give them the support that they need, no matter what background they come from," Patrick told 6 News.

Ideas for the program include finance lessons, cooking demonstrations, self defense, volunteering, and a 'Pen Pal' opportunity.

There are other women out there that can absolutely show them the way," Patrick says.
