DuBois, PA — Amid COVID-19, Lakeside United Methodist Church in DuBois started to do virtual services last year. Pastor Brett Dinger said they launched in person services last June but shut down around Thanksgiving. "I got COVID, so we had to shut down again cause I got COVID. But we've been back consistently since the beginning of February," said Brett Dinger, Senior Pastor at Lakeside United Methodist Church. In preparation for Palm Sunday, Dinger said the pews are distanced with green stickers and people are encouraged to wear masks.

Johnstown man sentenced up to 3 years in prison for stealing over $30K worth of drugs from local pha

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A Johnstown man who admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from a local pharmacy was sentenced this week. Officials say Matthew Miller appeared in court on Tuesday where he was sentenced to serve 18 to 36 months in the Cambria County Prison. Miller pleaded guilty to one felony count of obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation in December. Police charged Miller in 2022 after he reportedly admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from the Martella's Pharmacy location, where he was previously employed.

Art comes to life as Shanksville Elementary students' drawings turned to stuffed animals

Art came to life at Shanksville Elementary School in Somerset County Friday with a collaboration between high schoolers and the elementary students. This year's theme was monsters, so the elementary school was decorated with pictures of monsters; and students read monster books like The Color Monster. The students then drew their own monsters which were given the high school's art class who then made those drawings come to life by turning them into stuffed animals.

Johnstown Catholic schools announce rebranding

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown area catholic schools say they are "rebranding." Officials with the Bishop McCort Catholic School announced Wednesday that the district will rename Divine Mercy Catholic Academy's east and west campuses as Bishop McCort Catholic Elementary East and Bishop McCort Catholic Elementary West. Bishop McCort Catholic High School will remain under the same name. School officials say they think this decision will strengthen their schools and bring stability to the school systems.
